The Ballston Spa Community Band will be holding a 10th Anniversary Concert May 3rd, 2016 at the Malta Avenue Elementary School at 7:00 pm. The group was started 10 years ago as a Continuing Education program through the Ballston Spa Central School District. Their first concert was May 3, 2006 in the Malta Avenue Auditorium. Since then, the band has become a non-profit organization, with the mission of performing music throughout Saratoga County for the public, free of charge. The group, which meets year round, has performed many concerts, including the Lake George Community Band Festival, an annual Veteran’s Day Concert, and has become a staple at the summer First Friday events in the village of Ballston Spa. Their membership has grown from 16 that performed on the first concert to 45 musicians, 8 of whom are founding members. Our members range from 16 years to 76 years, with a wide variety of playing experience.
The concert on May 3rd will have the music performed 10 years ago, such as “Selections from The Wizard of Oz”, “Sea Songs” and “Amparito Roca”, as well as some new pieces including “Mars” from The Planets by Gustav Holst.
Please join us in celebrating this anniversary, and if you like what you hear, please consider becoming a member. For more information, please explore our Membership section.
